LoRa is a LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) radio technology that enables long range transmission for objects with modest power consumption allowing using a small battery for several years and keeping the things connected.
LoRa acts in the free sub-giga Hertz band, mainly 868 MHz (Europe) and 915 MHz (North and South America) and allows transmission in the order of 10+ kilometers. The structure of the network provide the existence of at least a LoRa gateway covering a wide area, able to manage thousands end points (meters, waste bins street lighters, parking sensors,…), collecting data from them and uploading to the Cloud.
Over the LoRa physical layer enabling the long-range communication, an upper layer was developed to manage the connection between gateways and end nodes. This is the LoRaWAN standard and it’s elected as interoperability pre-requisites for an end point as for the gateways to be able to operate together even if produced by different manufacturers, that’s the starting point for an integrated IoT network including several type of devices.
B METERS chose LoRa as a promising technology to be used for water metering and from early 2018 we joined LoRa Alliance (Association of manufacturers of connected devices using LoRaWAN standard).
All the modules are LoRaWAN compliant and allow our client to jump on LoRa World easily by adding an add-on module on the dial of our meters or choosing a model with Lora module already integrated.
